  • Board to Board Connectors

With the development of automotive technologies, such as driver assistance and electrification, vehicles are equipped with many ECUs (Electric Control Units) . The increase in the number of ECUs has created space and weight challenges, as well as requirements for more complex and high-speed networking.
In order to resolve these issues, the development and adoption of “integrated ECUs”, which consolidate many functions into a single larger ECUs, have been accelerating. JAE is developing connectors to address the needs of these integrated ECU’s.

Changes in E/E Architecture and Transmission Speed

In-vehicle E/E architectures has evolved from the traditional distributed approach to a domain architecture that aggregates ECUs by function. For the next generation, a shift to a zonal architecture is anticipated, where the vehicle is divided into multiple zones to optimize wiring, with final processing consolidated in a central ECU.
In zone architecture, vast amounts of data from cameras, radars, LiDAR, and other sources are aggregated to the central ECU. This necessitates high-speed internal transmission to handle large-capacity communication.

With the shift to integrated ECUs, the technical requirements for connectors have become even higher and there are various requirements such as space saving, power supply, support for taller stacking heights and high-speed data transmission.
JAE is developing the MA02 Series, floating board-to-board connectors, to satisfy these various requirements. The series has a contact pitch of 0.5mm, an operating temperature range of -40 to +125°C, a floating tolerance of ±0.8 mm in the X and Y directions and four power terminals that can handle 5A each. The terminals have a two-point contact structure for high contact reliability even under the harsh vibration conditions of in-vehicle use, while supporting 32Gbps transmission speeds complying with PCIe Gen5.
